The 2022 NCAA men’s basketball tournament Round of 32 may go down in friend group infamy. Folks, we were atrocious. Of all the picks given out, we landed at a group total of 6-11. That ain’t great. Now, there were some big plus money underdogs: Iowa St., St. Peter’s and UNC ML all cashed. That makes us 3-2 on underdog moneylines thanks to Texas and Memphis. Sadly, people won’t talk about our successes. They’ll whisper in dark alleys, “did you know Gambler’s Anon was 3-2 in underdog moneylines in the Round of 32?” Then will stand on the mountain tops, megaphone in hand, shouting out our 6-11 total record, and our 10-17 total record in the tournament. Quite frankly, that’s disgusting behavior and you should be entirely ashamed of yourselves.
With that being said, we’re on to brighter horizons. The Sweet 16 is drawing near, and we’ll be back with more picks soon. For now, let’s recount this past round:
- Pete: Murray St. -8.5 (L); OSU/Nova O143 (L)
- Chase: UNC ML (W); Texas ML (L)
- Frye: Providence -4
- Bates: NMSU +6.5 (W); MSU +6.5 (L)
- Derek: Richmond +4 (L)
- Tuna: St. Mary’s +3 (L); Auburn -7.5 (L)
- Sam: Memphis ML (L)
- Rolly: Prov/Rich O134 (L); Texas Tech -7 (L)
- Parker: St. Peter’s ML (W); Iowa St. ML
- Mike: UCLA -2 (W); Arizona -9.5 (L)
So what have we learned so far? For starters, overs are the enemy. Underdog MLs have been pretty successful, and spreads can cruise until the last ten seconds of a game and be destroyed by the late barrage of free throws. There were some heart breakers in there, and some that were dead on arrival.
I assure you, the experts on the panel are like rubber: we bounce back. If you don’t think we’re historically due for a massive Sweet 16, you’re clearly not paying attention.
